This specialized lathe is designed to
meet the requirements for machining precise spherical surfaces
with extreme accuracy
and sensitivity. Radii from 0 to 25 MM, both concave and convex,
can be machined. The machine is available with either a 3C headstock
or a D headstock. Both models can be equipped with Lever Operated
Collet Closers. Bed Slide Adapters enable one to use a Levin
Compound Slide Rest or Double Tool Cross Slide, and, many other
standard accessories as attachments. The standard models include
the cast iron chip tray, 1/8 HP, 2500 RPM permanent magnet motor,
variable speed control unit and provision for easy installation
of a model 0130-01 coolant system where required. Used either
as a portable machine or permanently bolted to a suitable work
bench, the machine can be mounted at a convenient height and
equipped to perform a wide
variety of second operation work.
The motor drive unit provides infinitely variable spindle
speeds to 5000 RPM with dynamic braking, I.R. drop compensation,
spindle reverse and optional foot switch control. The low center
of mass, smaller motor diameter, and increased overall mass
make this an extremely smooth running machine. This machine
is popular in the manufacture of contact lenses. By the use
of diamond cutting tools and the smooth running of the machine,
the lenses require very little polishing.
EQUIPMENT
HEADSTOCK - The headstock
is fully enclosed with special precision preloaded angular contact
ball bearings. The front bearings consist of a preloaded pair
of angular contact bearings with a single row radial bearing
in the rear. The spindle is fully hardened from end to end.
LATHE BED - The lathe bed
is cast iron and has an inverted dovetail form. This provides
the precision ways for the Radius Turning Attachment and the
Bed Slide
Adapter.
CHIP TRAY - A heavy ribbed
cast iron chip tray with a removable sieve for coolant drain
and provision for connecting a coolant system is included. This
heavy casting, which may be bolted to any suitable flat surface,
provides an ideal base for those applications requiring minimum
machine vibration. When not bolted to a bench or table, the entire
machine becomes easily portable.
MOTOR DRIVE UNITS - Machines
are furnished complete with a 1/8 HP, permanent magnet, 2500
RPM motor and variable speed control unit. The control unit provides
infinitely variable spindle speeds to 5000 RPM, dynamic braking,
spindle reverse, manual start and stop. A foot-switch start and
stop is available as an option. A separate coolant system control
circuit is included. Full overload protection is provided. The
machine operates
on 115V, 60 Hz, 1 Ph AC electrical service.
