This small Instrument Lathe is undoubtedly one of the most handy and versatile machines to have in any machine shop or laboratory. It can be equipped with any model compound slide rest, double tool cross slide, milling or grinding attachment and all Style D collets, chucks, arbors, and tool holders. Where an inexpensive machine is required for small, light work, one of these lathes will be appreciated by any machinist who normally has to struggle with small work on a large, cumbersome toolroom lathe. The direct savings in labor time resulting from having a lathe of this type available can easily repay the low initial cost in a matter of a few months.

Perhaps no other machine tool is appreciated by machinists as much as one of these small lathes. In almost every case where a small part has to be manufactured, repaired, modified, deburred, polished, chamfered, drilled, bored or tapped, it can be done faster and in a more workmanlike manner on a small Instrument Lathe than on a large toolroom lathe. A simple uncomplicated machine of this type substantially reduces operator effort and wasted operator time. No machine shop can any longer afford to be without such machines.

HEADSTOCK - The headstock is fully enclosed with special precision preloaded angular contact ball bearings. The front bearings consist of a preloaded pair of angular contact bearings with a single radial bearing in the rear. The spindle is fully hardened from end to end. On headstocks using Type 3C collets, the headstock is furnished with a special adapter and drawbar assembly which enables one to use the more accurate and sensitive Type D collets for holding work under 8.0 MM diameter.

TAILSTOCK -The tailstock is lever operated through a sensitive rack and pinion feed system. The spindle is fully hardened from end to end and accepts all Type D collets. A cam lock device on the tailstock permits locking the spindle rigidly in any selected position.

LATHE BED - The lathe bed is cast from Meehanite and has fully ground precision ways. It has an overall length of 13" and is furnished complete with a T-Bolt, Nut and Collar assembly for attaching tooling. The Pedestal is cast integral with the bed and a T-slot is provided throughout the length of the bed ways. It may be bolted securely to any flat surface.

MOTOR DRIVE UNITS - A motor drive unit consisting of 1/8 HP permanent magnet motor, variable speed control, and cast iron chip tray is included with some models of this lathe. The unit provides infinitely variable spindle speeds from 0 to 5000 RPM with dynamic braking. Normally supplied with manual start and stop, foot switch control is available as an option. The control unit and chip tray are equipped to accept a Model 0130-01 coolant system. The entire unit may be mounted on a Model 0070-01 or 0080-01 bench or to any flat surface. The motor drive unit is designed for use on a 115V, 60 Hz, 1 Ph AC circuit only.

When supplied complete with the Motor Drive Unit and Chip Tray, this lathe is a superbly rigid machine having extremely smooth operational characteristics. With appropriate tooling, it is ideally suited to a wide variety of general machine shop applications requiring the accuracy and sensitivity of an Instrument Lathe. When equipped with a Lever Collet Closer and a Compound Slide Rest or Double Tool Cross Slide, it becomes an ideal Speed Lathe especially suited to precision deburring, turning, boring, facing, chamfering, and cut-off work. When not bolted to a bench, it becomes easily portable and may be moved from one shop area to another as needed for convenience.
