HOW TO ORDER COLLETS

In general, collets for instrument Lathes are marked the metric system. The difference in size between two consecutively-numbered collets is very small and it is usually possible to obtain a standard stock size collet for any work. Standard collets are also available in fractional inch sizes as listed in the table Below.

However, in some cases standard collets may not be sufficiently close to the part diameter. They may require special slotting patterns, closing or opening characteristics, special diameters, relief or step depth or an almost infinite variety of special features.

When ordering standard collets, specify the diameter and whether it is type WW or type D. For Non-Standard collets, a dimensioned drawing or sketch illustrating the special features is required.
